One person is dead and multiple people injured following a police chase that ended with a multiple-vehicle crash.
The Department of Public Safety reports that troopers attempted to halt 22-year-old Jacobe Jabar Johnson for speeding on I-20, west of Abilene, but he fled.
DPS stated that Johnson, maneuvering on both sides of the interstate and eluding spike strips, reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. Upon entering Abilene, he headed north on Hwy 277. The pursuit concluded as Johnson attempted to transition onto the service road, resulting in a collision with two or three other vehicles.
Tragically, Johnson’s passenger, 27-year-old Aaron Earl Rattler, succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The conditions of the drivers in the other vehicles remain unknown after being transported to the hospital. Johnson is set to face charges for evading arrest or detention in a vehicle, with additional charges anticipated.
