On October 24, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded on Adnan Menderes Caddesi, a street known for its nightlife and entertainment venues in Sakarya, Turkey. The event began as a physical altercation among a group of individuals outside an alcohol-serving establishment, escalating quickly and leading to chaos.
Hilmi Tunahan Çiçek, a 21-year-old man, was reportedly involved in the fight. During the altercation, he was tripped by someone from the opposing group, causing him to fall into the street. At that moment, a vehicle driven by Y.F. was passing by and struck Çiçek. The impact was severe, resulting in him being run over and also injuring another individual, a foreign national identified as A.R., who was nearby and was thrown several meters by the collision.
Emergency services were promptly called to the scene. Both Çiçek and A.R. were transported to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital. Despite medical interventions, Çiçek’s condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries five days later. A.R. also suffered serious injuries but survived the incident.
The death of Hilmi Tunahan Çiçek has sparked discussions about safety in nightlife areas and the responsibilities of those involved in violent incidents. Following Çiçek’s passing, a funeral was held at the Karaboğaz Mosque, where family, friends, and the community came together to pay their respects. He was laid to rest in Serdivan Central Cemetery. This incident remains a poignant reminder of how quickly a night of entertainment can turn into tragedy, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures in social settings.
