Russian Factory Work Accident

The Novocheboksarsk prosecutor’s office has taken legal action against a 44-year-old foreman from Cheboksary, employed at Cheboksary Doors LLC, following a severe workplace accident. The foreman faces charges under Part 1 of Article 143 of the Russian Criminal Code, which addresses the violation of labor safety rules leading to serious health consequences.

According to the investigation conducted by the Investigative Committee, the foreman was responsible for ensuring safety protocols at the factory located on Industrial Street in Novocheboksarsk. However, he failed to adhere to these protocols, particularly concerning the placement of materials. On August 11, 2023, at 11:46 AM, this oversight resulted in a worker being trapped between a stack of MDF sheets and the machine’s feed table, causing grievous injuries.

The incident occurred because the foreman allowed a stack of MDF sheets to be placed too close to the format-cutting center, not providing sufficient space for safe operation. This breach of safety standards directly led to the accident, highlighting a critical failure in workplace safety management.

Further investigation revealed additional negligence; the foreman did not develop or implement a technological map, which should have outlined safe cargo placement and clear passage routes within the workshop. This omission compounded the risks inherent in the factory’s operational environment.

The case has been sent to court for adjudication. If found guilty, the foreman could face penalties ranging from fines up to 400,000 rubles to imprisonment for up to one year, reflecting the severity of the breach in labor protection regulations.
