On April 27, 2023, police in Oklahoma City responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on NW 19th Street involving 26-year-old Deangelo Wright. Officers found Wright already had two active felony warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault and battery. According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Wright has prior convictions for domestic abuse, second-degree burglary, and illegally carrying a firearm as a convicted felon.
In two earlier visits to the apartment that day, officers missed Wright as he left before they arrived. However, when they returned a third time, Sgt. Morgan Reynolds attempted to talk to Wright. He reacted violently, launching a brutal assault that left Sgt. Reynolds unconscious and with serious injuries.
Wright continued his assault on the unconscious officer until a bystander stepped in, but he then attacked her as well before fleeing. Later, Oklahoma Cityโs Violent Crimes Apprehension Team (VCAT) tracked Wright to a laundry room at another apartment complex on N. Meridian, where he was arrested hours after the incident. Heโs currently being held in the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a $10 million bond, facing charges that include aggravated assault on an officer, domestic assault and battery by strangulation, and interfering with an emergency call.
Sgt. Reynolds was released from the hospital on the following Monday. Medical reports show that her injuries included a skull fracture, broken jaw, fractured orbital bone, a concussion, and broken teeth.
The investigation also revealed that Wright’s recent record includes multiple offenses. He was already wanted on charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault and battery, related to an incident before his last incarceration in 2021. He served eight months of a two-year sentence from October 2021 to June 2022 for domestic abuse and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. At the time of this recent attack, he was still on probation for those offenses, along with previous convictions for second-degree burglary and receiving a stolen credit card.
