A 76-year-old man, Domingo Berna, was arrested after fatally shooting his 29-year-old grandson, Brian Berna, during a family dispute in Bahía Blanca. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at their residence on Cobian at 600.
Surveillance footage captured the altercation where initially, Brian assaulted his grandfather. In a subsequent clip, Domingo is seen shooting Brian, who then collapses and lies motionless on the floor.
Following the shooting, emergency services and police arrived at the scene after a 911 call. They discovered Brian’s body in a pool of blood at the house entrance. Medical personnel and forensic teams, including the Scientific Police and prosecutor Jorge Viego, attended the scene to investigate.
Domingo was detained and taken to a police station but refused to give a statement. He was charged with “homicide qualified for the link committed with a firearm and excess in self-defense.” However, he was released on Thursday, April 16, due to his age and the legal penalties associated with the crime, though the investigation continues.
During the investigation, several weapons were found at the scene, including the alleged murder weapon, a .32-caliber revolver, and a broken broomstick believed to have been used by Brian during the confrontation.
An autopsy revealed Brian suffered five gunshot wounds to his abdomen, chest, neck, cheek, and shoulder. Domingo showed signs of physical abrasions, indicating he was also involved physically in the altercation.
