In a significant ruling, a municipal guard in Americana, São Paulo, was sentenced to 16 years and 7 months in prison for the attempted murder of his ex-wife. The incident, which unfolded in the Praia Azul neighborhood, highlights the severe and often violent nature of domestic disputes, particularly when one party exhibits controlling behavior.

On the day of the assault, witnesses reported that the guard chased his 31-year-old ex-wife until he crashed into her car. He violently threw her onto the sidewalk, began punching her, and attempted to stab her with a pocketknife. The brutal nature of the attack was witnessed by the victim’s sister, who immediately called for help. Two men intervened, defending the woman by beating the guard with a piece of wood and kicking him in the head. Their quick response was crucial, as they managed to pull the victim away from her attacker, who subsequently lost consciousness from the blows he received.

After the altercation, both individuals were taken to the Dr. Waldemar Tebaldi Municipal Hospital. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including damage to her face, ears, upper abdomen, right thigh, and palms. In contrast, the attacker suffered a head injury and was released from the hospital with assistance from fellow municipal guards.
