Tragic Shooting at Sanitation Board Over Alleged Financial Discrepancies

On Tuesday morning, Alcides Alvarenga, the treasurer of the entity, entered an office where Miriam Soto Sanchez, aged 37, was seated at her desk. Without any verbal exchange, Alvarenga shot Soto Sanchez in the arm, causing her visible pain.

Subsequently, he fired another shot, this time fatally wounding her in the head. Soto Sanchez collapsed and died instantly, as confirmed by witnesses at the scene.

Following the shooting, Alvarenga attempted to escape but was apprehended shortly thereafter in Aregua. He justified his actions by claiming that Soto Sanchez had insulted his family’s honor.

However, police investigations lean towards financial motives, suggesting that Soto Sanchez was about to report Alvarenga’s financial mismanagement at the Sanitation Board to higher authorities, which led to the confrontation and her subsequent murder.
