Student, 19, dies after rooftop wall collapses during phone call.

According to Daily Mail report a 19-year-old student tragically fell to his death from the rooftop of an 18-story building in Qinyang, Henan province. The incident happened around 1 PM on April 22, when the student, identified by his surname Yang, was reportedly making a phone call at the edge of the roof. According to local police, the wall under his feet suddenly gave way, leading to the fatal fall.

Witness accounts and video footage captured the moment before the accident, showing Yang on the phone at the rooftop’s edge. A witness was in the process of alerting emergency services when Yang lost his footing due to the crumbling structure. Despite the immediate response, paramedics could only pronounce him dead at the scene.

Yang was a senior at a local private high school. Following the incident, the Qinyang public security bureau stated that there was no criminal activity involved in his death. The police’s preliminary investigation suggested that Yang had an altercation with his family prior to the incident, though specifics were not disclosed.

Further insights into Yang’s personal life revealed struggles with mental health. A teacher mentioned to Beijing Youth Daily that Yang had been dealing with depression and was frequently absent from school. This background paints a picture of some of the challenges he might have been facing.

The community and school have been left in shock by the sudden loss. The incident has sparked discussions on safety measures in residential buildings and the mental health support available to students. The local authorities have called for a thorough examination of building structures to prevent such accidents in the future.
