Amy Slaton of ‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ Arrested at Tennessee Zoo

Amy Slaton, known from the TLC show “1000-Lb. Sisters,” found herself in legal trouble over Labor Day weekend when she was arrested at a Tennessee drive-through zoo. The incident unfolded on September 2, as reported by the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department. Slaton, aged 36, was detained following a disturbance where she was allegedly bitten by a camel, leading to her medical treatment at a local ER.

The arrest came after authorities detected what they suspected to be illegal substances in her vehicle. Slaton, along with Brian Scott Lovvorn, was charged with illegal possession of Schedule I and VI drugs, alongside two counts of child endangerment. Both individuals were in custody as of September 3, awaiting a bond hearing.

The substances in question were believed to be mushrooms and marijuana, found in plain sight, providing law enforcement with probable cause for a vehicle search. At the time of the arrest, Slaton’s children, Gage, 4, and Glenn, 2, from her marriage to Michael Halterman, were also in the car but were unharmed. The Department of Children and Family Services has since intervened, with the children being placed in the care of a family member.

Amy Slaton gained public recognition through “1000-Lb. Sisters,” a show that chronicles her and her sister Tammy’s weight loss journeys and personal lives. Her marriage to Halterman, which included the birth of their two sons, has been a significant part of the show’s narrative. However, the couple’s relationship hit a rough patch, leading to Halterman filing for divorce in early 2023, which was finalized by September of the same year. The divorce proceedings included requests for restraining orders and agreements on shared parenting.

This arrest adds another chapter to Slaton’s public life, which has often been under scrutiny due to her reality TV presence. The charges against her and Lovvorn are allegations at this stage, with both presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The ongoing investigation will determine the next steps in this case, affecting not just Slaton’s legal standing but also her personal and professional life moving forward.
