A mother stabbed in front of her three-year-old daughter

During the Notting Hill Carnival, Cher Maximen, a 32-year-old mother, was fatally stabbed after attempting to intervene in a dispute. The incident occurred in broad daylight on Golborne Road, with her young daughter and other family members present. Despite immediate medical attention, Maximen succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Shakiel Thibou, aged 20, has been accused of her attempted murder, alongside charges of possessing a knife and violent disorder. His brothers, Sheldon and Shaeim Thibou, also face charges related to the violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.

In another tragic event at the carnival, Mussie Imnetu, a 41-year-old chef known for his work with Gordon Ramsay, was discovered unconscious with a severe head injury outside Dr Power restaurant in Queensway. Despite efforts to save him, Imnetu passed away due to his injuries. Omar Wilson, 31, has been charged with causing Imnetu grievous bodily harm with intent, a charge now under review following Imnetu’s death.

Both incidents have deeply affected the community and those involved with the carnival, leading to widespread condemnation of the violence. The Metropolitan Police, led by Detective Chief Inspectors Alex Gammampila and Brian Howie, are conducting thorough investigations into both cases, offering support to the victims’ families and appealing for witnesses. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, expressed his heartbreak over the events, emphasizing that such violence betrays the carnival’s founding values of unity and celebration. Organizers of the Notting Hill Carnival echoed these sentiments, standing against all forms of violence and mourning the loss of life during what should have been a joyous occasion.
