Man Convicted of Murder in Gloucester Street Stabbing

Samwen Muiruri, aged 32, from Gloucester, has been found guilty of murdering Kidane Gebrehiwot, 55, after a jury at Gloucester Crown Court deliberated for nearly five hours. The incident occurred on Arthur Street, Gloucester, around 1:00 AM on August 6 of the previous year, where Mr. Gebrehiwot suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest.

The confrontation began after the two men, previously acquainted, encountered each other and got into an argument. CCTV footage captured their movements through several streets before the altercation escalated on Eastgate Street. After a brief separation, Muiruri retrieved a knife from his home and confronted Mr. Gebrehiwot again, stabbing him once before leaving the scene with the chilling words, “I am done with you now.”

Despite immediate medical attention, Mr. Gebrehiwot succumbed to his injury at the scene. The knife’s handle, found with Muiruri’s DNA, and the blade, which broke off during the attack, were part of a set from Muiruri’s residence. Further evidence included Muiruri’s clothing, which bore Mr. Gebrehiwot’s blood.

Throughout the two-week trial, Muiruri maintained his innocence. However, the evidence led to his conviction. Detective Inspector Adam Stacey described Mr. Gebrehiwot as a beloved community member known for his caring nature, while labeling Muiruri as dangerously violent.

Muiruri was sentenced to life imprisonment today.
